Healthtalk’s hosts share their hot Christmas tips!

So we’re on a break from healthtalks, but with christmas just around the corner, I asked the girls to share their hot christmas tips.

Sam Gowing

Tips about tipples No nonsense notes from the ex-Publican!

Prepare and don’t despair!

Make your first drink a mineral water on any occasion then alternate mineral water with your favourite tipple. In most Australian venues soda water is distributed via an on site fountain called a carbonator which pumps water into a pressure chamber containing carbon dioxide (CO2). Yuk!

If you drink soda water as your mixer, consider moving to mineral water, even if you have to pay extra for the mixer.

You’re worth it.

Discover preservative free wine which has no sulphur dioxide, a chemical compound that may be listed as either 220,221,222,223 or 224. For many people these reactions are consistent with those found with an allergy – hives, malaise, emotional distress for no known reason, fatigue and joint pain. I drink this brand of PF wine.

What to have the day after the night before…
Something slightly salty such as miso soup or a hearty Vietnamese Pho soup. The ‘salt’ flavour helps to balance the ‘sweet’ flavour that alcohol is usually classified as in Chinese Medicine.

Melissa Ambrosini:

Keep moving! My Christmas day looks something like this:

  • Wake up
  • Exchange gifts
  • Eat
  • Go to my Mum’s side of the family
  • Eat
  • Go to my Dad’s side of the family
  • Eat
  • Bed

There is a lot of sitting, eating, sitting in the car and more eating.

Keep moving throughout the day, I suggest going for a family walk in nature after breakfast. Or if you have younger cousins play with them. Or suggest a friendly game of backyard cricket. Run around and keep moving. This will help aid digestion, stop bloating and stop you from feeling sluggish.

Take extra time to listen to your body and respond to what it wants. It’s so easy to get caught up in the festivities of Christmas and let traditions and outside influences sway us from the wellness path. This is why it’s so important to be extra kind to yourself by staying true to what your body needs.

Begin the day with silent solitude to tap into your inner guidance system and be mindful as much as possible. However, if you do slip up, don’t beat yourself up over it. Guilt does way more damage than indulgence, so always bring it back to kindness and let yourself off the hook

and then there’s me…

Keep your fertility in mind and be kind (to your body)!

Remember – extra alcohol consumption, poor food choices (or eating very little OR overindulging), lack of sleep and stress will all affect your fertility substantially. Simply be mindful that you are the driver – you’re in control. You have the ability to choose. If you’re tired, sleep! Hungry, fuel well. Make great choices this Christmas and be awesome. You’ll come out the other side with ease and there be nothing less to resolve for New Year other than how to be even more awesome!

Healthy Christmas from the healthtalks cast and crew!
