When kindness hits your inbox – every woman needs to read this guest post by Alice Nichols

I get lots of requests for guest posts but this one warmed my heart and made me cry at the same time.  So many women innately know their current treatment methods aren’t serving them, yet they don’t have the knowledge or education to make informed decisions.  I talk so much about this in my current tour because this is the crux of the hormone hell epidemic.  We collectively as women don’t have enough knowledge about ourselves.  The beautiful Alice Nichols wrote to me and asked if I would share this story with my readers today.  I in no way told Nicole what to say nor do I really have any idea of the impact my events and ecourses are making until times such as what you’ll read about here today.  This totally makes my heart sing.  I have to remember, everyday, that I was born to do this and so I’ll keep on keeping on and banning this drum because women need to make informed decisions and trust their instincts for the sake of our future health.  As you’ll read, Alice’s client was no exception.  Well done to Alice for leading her clients to wellness.  Take a read of this beautiful guest post.

Sarah* walked into my office and sat down in front of me, all tanned skin, long limbs and brilliant smile.  Had you asked me to describe her health without first speaking with her I’d have said – “Sarah is a perfect picture of health”.

I’ve learned over the last few years how risky it can be to form judgements in health of those who come to me to ask for help.  However, in a traditional GP setting, we may often find this is exactly the scenario that gets played over and over again.

Quick judgements.  Production line.

“You look great!  Let’s check your chest, ears and eyes.  OK all good.  Here’s a prescription for such and such.  See you later.”

Sarah’s trip to see the GP was a result of of medical professionals working to support her recovery from anorexia.  At 14 years old Sarah had been admitted to hospital severely underweight and with a need for intervention.

At 16, after working with a revolving door of traditional medical Dr.’s – some good, some not so good – Sarah found her way to me with a genuine interest and care about managing her health from a kind and holistic point of view.

Having been to see her GP the day prior, one of Sarah’s biggest concerns was the fact that she had not had a period in nearly 18 months.  Since dropping past a healthy weight range Sarah’s periods had stopped.  Her body went into shut-down mode, a natural response when the body becomes aware it’s not healthy enough to sustain a pregnancy.

Since putting weight back on, her period hadn’t returned and although she was young Sarah was worried it would affect her chances of pregnancy later on.  Sarah’s GP and her mother had discussed and decided that the best thing to do was to put her on the birth control pill with the aim of regulating her hormones to a healthy levels.

Sarah was the only person concerned about this recommendation and brought this concern to me.  Together we walked through her worries – that she wasn’t sexually active, that her Dr. had not discussed side-effects with her mother or her, that her mother wasn’t concerned about further research into the process and the biggest one for Sarah;

“How will I know if my body knows what to do naturally if I’m pumping it full of artificial chemicals from this point on in my life?”

I don’t prescribe or diagnose in my work so I immediately thought of Nat Kringoudis for support and purchased her Debunking Ovulation e-course.  We watched the series and without my opinion, Sarah decided to hold off on taking the pill.  We focused on adding healthy fats to her diet such as coconut, avocado, olive oil and oily fish.  We got together and cooked healthy meals that she could make for herself at home that were balanced and followed a somewhat paleo structured diet.  A lot of vegetables, proteins from seeds such as quinoa and buckwheat, fish and good meats, fats and minerals.

Two months later we had a session and Sarah admitted she was having a cranky day.  Two hours later I got a text message from her;

“I know why I’ve been so cranky today! I just got my period for the first time in 2 years!”.

There are not many girls who’re aware enough to ask for a second opinion at 14 or 16 or 18.  While there are a lot of amazing modern GP’s and medical Dr.’s doing fantastic holistic health work with women, there is also a really ingrained culture of prescribing the pain or perceived problem away as if being a woman was a problem in itself.

Our bodies are so much smarter than we give them credit for and we need to give ourselves permission and tools to heal.  We actively need to seek out information on who we are, not just emotionally, but physically as well.  There is no better person to champion your health and wellness than you and if you need support there are amazing people with genuine and authentic care for you as a beautiful, powerful and amazing woman.

    These include catchin the ferry to Moreton Island, which has beaches, surfing, walking trails, a lighthouse, and opportunities to feed dolphins by hand.

    This island is a natural beauty, is in Australia and covers almost 184 000 hectares.
    Some speakers have everyone in the room stand and meet one
    new person and exchange information such as why they are here today,
    what they hope to get out of the session, one unusual hobby they have, and so on so that participants have a better chance of remembering one another.
