It's really hard for me to say without seeing you but if you can make sure you're also working on your gut health at the same time I think you'll find long lasting changes. It's also about looking at why you're low in Vit D and Iron, not just supplementing. x

You would benefit greatly from a DUTCH test - I'd love to help! The DUTCH test tells you how you body is using your hormones and tests your cortisol properly too. Do you have debunking your thyroid (my ecourse?). It would help for sure! x

Hi Nat
Great page. I’ve had areata alopecia for years now. I have always had pcos so have been on pill until 5 months ago and whilst hair she’d has become a constant for me it is now more than ever. It’s so depressing and scary. I have both androgenic and areata alopecia. I’m worried this level of hair shed will continue if I don’t go back on the pill. But I want to start a family, I’m just scared I’m going to have no hair left. Can an overhaul in my diet help with regrowth of hair? My thyroids always been borderline as per my blood tests and my Doctors have never felt need to medicate it rather just ‘monitor’ it. Suspect I need a full thyroid test?

PCOS confirmation is done by bloods, a scan and ticking off a few common symptoms. I would say that one of these things would be causing the next so starting with the thyroid is a great place to begin.

Perfect timing! I have also been experiencing hair loss the last few months. I do have low iron levels and vitamin D levels so my naturopath has provided me with supplements to take. I do believe it's a combination of the deficiencies and weather change. I'm just wondering how long it will actually take for my hair to grow back and stop falling out now that I am taking these supplements?

Well I didn't and my hair slowly started to grow back... but recently I have noticed things falling apart again! I went to a naturopath in a panic and he said he was pretty confident I have an under active thyroid (strong family history + having nearly ALL the symptoms). We are waiting on results from a full thyroid blood test. From my most recent blood test results I had high androgens and low ferritin (I think my number is 17). Would it be a combination of all these things? How would I know if I have PCOS? What tests are involved?

The first time I noticed it was a few years ago when I went off the pill ... which my doctor had put me on for acne. I think it was when I started reading up on your research on the pill that I wanted to go off it. As a result my lovely clear skin disappeared and my full head of hair began falling out!! I cannot tell you how tempted I have been to go back on the pill!!
