Wellness Women Wednesday: Claire Obeid

Meet the beauty that is Claire Obeid.  Claire is the founder of The Wellness Project, a coach, writer and truth speaker.  You’ll quickly learn that Claire is one cleverly in tune with herself kinda gal – which I ‘oh so love!’  Feeling connected to ourselves is essential for all round wellness.  Take a read of what this gorgeous girl has to share with us all today – and of course hear her cheesy addiction (my favourite question) which will have you totally relating!

What does fertility mean to you?

I guess, for me, there are two meanings to fertility. As I’m yet to become a mother, I firstly see fertility as being productive and prolific  – being able to create and produce in my life and work. Whether that is a new project within my coaching business; a new service or ebook. Or that my life is rich and abundant – not from a financial perspective, but moreso a plentitude of happiness, healthy, balance, joy and love.

Secondly, as a woman being fertile is something I place high importance on. Motherhood is a journey I definitely hope to experience one day – so much so that I stopped taking the pill 9 years ago out of respect for my body.

To me, being fertile is about motherhood, but it’s also has this ancient, primal, Mother-Earth connection that I think us women need to be proud of, own and rejoice in. (Whether we become mother’s or not). We have a gift – our bodies are remarkable – and to be rejoicing in our womanhood and fertility is something I’d love to see us do more!

What is one ritual or practice that you do that connects you back to yourself as a woman?

Every month, during the first three days of my cycle I don’t exercise or practice yoga (as a devoted yogi, my daily practice is sacred). This comes back to respecting and holding space for my body to do what it needs to do. Rather than ‘push’ through, I go into a little cocoon – sleep more, read more, rest more. I read and meditate and spend a lot of time on my own journaling, pulling angel cards and just connecting within.

I resisted this practice when my yoga teacher first introduced it to me! As a new and eager yogi, showing up to my male teacher and having to ‘report’ that I was in my ‘moon cycle’ and then being set-up in restorative poses with pillows and cushions wasn’t easy at first. I wanted to push past the limitations of my body and get on with it. Eventually I realized that this time of the month wasn’t a burden, it was a sacred reminder that I am a woman and I have a gift. Now, each month, I honour that reminder.

If you could tell your teen self one piece of advice about health/fertility/hormones, what would it be?

“Even though you really want to have sex and getting pregnant would literally kill your parents (and most likely you), the pill is also a killer! It’ll crush your libido; it’ll cause ugly mood swings, you’ll get pigmentation all over your body and when you ask the Doc’s for help they’ll tell you the pill doesn’t affect your fertility and all is well… even though you can feel something isn’t right.

Would you change something you did in previous years with regard to fertility and health? If so what might that be?

No. I feel I made some pretty solid decisions on my own for the better – I came off the pill and all contraceptive methods that were invasive. I drastically changed my diet and lifestyle and literally changed my life.

What ignites you?

The sunrise. Swimming in the ocean. The written word. Soulful connections. My passion-filled, purposeful work. Love. Meditation. Breathing deeply. Laughing.

What’s your one essential health item?

Meditation. Hand-on-heart most major health concerns I’ve had and witnessed in my clients are stress related – meditation truly heals and strengthens the mind, body and soul. Oh and fat – butter, coconut oil, grass-fed meat with the fat on, fatty fish. It makes my body and my brain very happy.

Favourite food?

I love fish! Wild caught Barramundi, steamed with a huge bowl of greens on the side.

Favourite movie or book?

Constantly changes! Recently I saw ‘HER’ which was a fascinating reflection of where our society is headed and the desire we all have for love.

I recently read Red Hot & Holy by Sera Beak – highly recommend!

Cheesy addiction?

Ahh.. I got hooked on the Bachelorette for some reason! Sucker for love.

Morning or Evening routine?

Morning! Meditation at 5:30am. Followed by journaling, pulling an angel card, some EFT or reading affirmations. Yoga/nourishing movement and then breakfast.
