My Lucy. Her story of hormone imbalance, the pill and how to get good skin.

As you are well aware, I’m on (and loving) maternity leave. I’ve been able to actually take the time out this time round, all made possible by MY Lucy. Lucy is my fab associate. She came on board at The Pagoda Tree last year and honestly, we’ve never looked back. Lucy has slipped right into natural fertility medicine and she’s doing an outstanding job, helping couples all about the place. I couldn’t be more thrilled. I asked Lucy to write a guest post for the blog – about something she wanted to share. Here’s what Lucy had to say…

After working with the ever so wonderful Natalie Kringoudis since June 2011, it is finally time I made my debut blog! Who am I, you may be wondering? So let me tell you about me…

I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine with Natalie at Victoria University and completed my six year double degree in herbal medicine and acupuncture in 2006. Since working with Nat, I have been reflecting back on my years of taking my body for granted.

Nat has blogged time and time again about the effects of the pill on your body, so I will share my experience with you.

I first went on the pill as a youngster as I suffered with severe period pain. For the ten years of being on the pill my period pain was still present but not as severe. The first seven years of being on the pill didn’t seem so bad but the last three started to show signs of serious cracks. My skin, weight and emotional state went downhill and fast! After seeing doctor after doctor and going through numerous types of pill prescriptions, my skin only got worse and worse. At the end of my tether I gave up and went off the pill all together, thinking my skin would repair itself soon after coming off. I was wrong… my first mistake!

Six years later and my skin was still breaking out worse than when I was a teenager and suffering period pain more severely than before. I tried every quick fix on the market for my skin and went to some very expensive lengths to try and bring it back to a reasonable condition and yet still to no avail. All I could think of when I started studying Chinese Medicine was that I wanted to look further in to the affects it has in treating skin conditions, but all this was looking to be so far away. How could I promote better skin when mine was so bad?

Since starting with Natalie seven months ago I took a stand against my skin and all the “quick fix’s” that I had tried and decided to wake up and practice what I preach! Chinese medicine had to be my solution! So I started taking herbs and giving myself Acupuncture. As much as I never wanted anyone to see these photos, here is how I looked 7 months ago at my worst and lowest emotional point.

Since working at The Pagoda Tree I have learnt to get back to my roots and what is important for life balance. For someone who is normally so highly strung, trying to take time out for myself was not going to be an easy task. From changing this part of my life I instantly had a clearer and more open way of understanding and treating my clients.

So here I am treating myself with herbs and acupuncture for my skin but also learning that it is ok to just “BE” for a while. Well in as little as a month, what do you know, but my skin is starting to improve, my confidence starting to return, I am much more relaxed with life and in tow my period pain also decreasing. Who would have thought?

To top it all off! In December 2011 I started taking the practitioner grade multi vitamins we have here in the clinic. I have had multi’s in the past without noticing too much of a difference to my body, however was still keen to try our higher grade ones. I wish I had of started taking them from the beginning! This is what sealed the deal – I saw a big shift to the point that my skin has nearly cleared up completely! What an amazing difference it made in such a short period of time. My skin now glows; it’s repairing faster, and breakouts gone, even with the stress of the silly season upon me! The age old question…If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would be the one thing you would want in your possession? Our Multi Vitamin is my answer! You can see the results for yourself…

The new “Me” does not stop here. After turning 30 last November, it is time I started taking control and care of my body. I don’t have children yet but for when that day comes I want to make sure that my fertility is still at its best, just as I aim for my clients.

So join me in 2012 and let’s make this the year of positive change!

So if you’re on the hunt for better skin or know your hormones are out of whack – don’t despair. We have a bag of tricks ready for you in the clinic. Lucy knows – look how fab her skin is.

After reading Lucy’s story I felt like she was writing about me! I have this exact same story and am still dealing with acne at 32. I would love to learn more about the treatment/vitamins she used.

    Thank you!

Kelli! Wonderful you found this then. The treatments we use in the clinic are toward each individuals diagnosis – it certainly isn’t a one size fits all. But as Lucy mentioned a quality multi and fish oil is a great start.
