Meet Claire from This is Lifeblood. She’s one inspiring woman on a mission! She knows a thing or two about how to move toward health through holistic treatments. Whatsmore, she recognised the ill effects the pill was having on her body, experienced post pill amenorrhea AND realised she needed to act on it and like so many women who come off the pill, she’s since been diagnosed with PCOS. And rather than me rave on about her – let’s hear it from the gorgeous woman’s own mouth!
Tell us a bit about yourself, what ignited your passion for the health and wellness industry?
Hi! I’m Claire, a lover of all things colourful, creative and soulful. My heart lies in health and wellness. 9 years ago I was diagnosed with acute liver inflammation which kickstarted my education of the healing power of whole foods and holistic health therapies. I cleaned up my diet, experimented with hypnotherapy and kinesiology and witnessed firsthand the incredible abilities our bodies have to heal themselves when we give them half a chance. And then, how life becomes sweeter and clearer and the creative channels open when our bodies are functioning at their prime. It was a tough gig for a 17 year old to go through, but a blessing in disguise really! Now I am a Certified Health Coach and I get to support other women as they discover this truth for themselves.
I love the name of your blog ‘This is Lifeblood’. I’d love you to share with us where the name came from?
A lot of brainstorming with my sister and my Thesaurus! But really, it’s our essence; what pumps through our veins, what gets us out of bed in the mornings. Lifeblood is passion and purpose and what makes YOU who you are. I believe that we are all here for a reason, we each have a purpose on this planet and it is our bliss as well as our obligation to live that! That is what Lifeblood is all about.
Recently you wrote a post about the troubles you have been having coming off the Pill. I speak about this often but I would love for you to share you recent experience and where you are at with getting your body back on track post pill…
That post is by far the most popular post on my blog, with an absolute army of comments from people who are frightened and confused as to where their bodies are at post-pill when their periods don’t arrive. I really have to stress here Nat, how wonderful it is that you are speaking about this and educating people, because so many young women are uninformed and unsure when it comes to their reproductive health. So thank you! (*insert fist pump on my part here*!!)
After being on the pill for 10 years, I stopped taking it in January. After 5 months had passed without a period, I realised my body was in need of some extra-nourishing as it rebalanced itself, so I decided to research foods and healing therapies that would be beneficial. I’ve been seeing a Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist fortnightly, as well as taking prescribed herbs and eating fertility-fuelling, blood-building, hormone-balancing foods. It’s really important to me to take responsibility for my health and understand where my body is at, so I’ve also seen a GP to test my hormone levels and undergone ultrasounds to figure out what is going on.
I’ve recently discovered I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), so the next step for me is deciphering how to best support my body now that I have this knowledge, but at the end of the day, I know I am doing everything in my power to nurture my body while transitioning off the pill. I choose not to feel stressed by the situation, because that would counteract all the healing work I am doing, but I will certainly be throwing a ‘Period Party’ when mine finally returns!

What motto do you live by?
As above; do more of what you love. And trust the process.
What is your number one go to meal on the run?
I keep a bunch of cooked quinoa in the fridge, so I scoop some of that in a bowl, add a can of sardines or boiled eggs, some grated zucchini and carrot, turmeric and a teaspoon of coconut cream. It’s like a curry in a hurry!
Where to from here, what’s in the pipelines for yourself and this is lifeblood?
Well, I’ve just opened my doors to take on more clients which is wonderful as it’s my dream to support women as they navigate through the health and wellness world. I’ve also recently started my yoga teacher training, I’ve got a live event and an eBook in the pipeline for next year, plus I’m planning on getting out there and writing-my-butt-off for some other wellness magazines, programs and platforms to continue to share the love. Plus my travel bug has been biting and I’ve got New York in my sights…

I recently posted my Sensational Stuffed Tomato Halves that I contributed to an upcoming online detox program. They’re the perfect cleansing, plant-based meal or side dish. Very impressive and so delish.
