I love you to bits, but stop freaking out already!

“Because we are all unique individuals.  We all need to remember that what works for one may not work for the next.”

Today is my first day back after 3 weeks away and far out brussels sprout, I’ve got some work to do.  I’ve been sitting here wading, sifting, almost sinking through the mountain that is my inbox.  I have to say, I’d love to run back to Hawaii and switch off all the mind chatter that comes with answering emails.  I seem to swing from sadness, to motivation, then to mere frustration (frustration by how misleading some health advice can be) as I read the queries and pleas for help that flow in.  I want you to know one thing before I go on – each and every email, be it praise, requests or the ‘your my last resort,’ or you need to shut up kind, all have the same effect on me.  I’m motivated.  Women need to know my message.  Women need to understand their bodies better.  Women must start to take charge of their own health – for the future generations to come.  And all this starts with education.  And for me, that’s exactly what 2014 is all about.

I have to say this much.  Please – don’t freak out.

I know sometime easier said than done, but the general theme of the vast majority of emails I receive are ‘freak out’ pleas for help.  Women ‘running’ out of time, being put under pressure be it to go on the pill or for IVF, being told they are infertile, never going to get pregnant, can’t heal Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, that Endometriosis not only can’t be fixed but makes you infertile and that that the only way you can treat these conditions is via the pill.  Oh and then there’s this one – that it’s time for IVF because you’ve been told your over 30 (like 30.5) and your time is running out.  Ok sorry to be cheeky (you know what I mean), but did I hear on the radio last week, that apparently IVF is not only being overused but being used when it isn’t necessary?  Indeed I did – and please know that I’m not opposed to IVF.  I am however, totally opposed to it’s overuse, hands down.  Bollocks to all that.  The urgency only creates STRESS.  And stress creates hormone imbalance – the very root of the initial problem!  Without doubt, the absolute worst thing we can do is go into the state of panic.  It doesn’t serve us.

It’s time to chill for a sec.

You know, you can’t shoot the messenger either.  Very often, the first stop for many of our health problems is our GP and of course she too is led to believe that the pill is completely safe and that it’s the solution for most women’s health issues as a first point of call or that IVF is your only solution if your own bits and bobs aren’t playing the game.  Anyway – my point is, that maybe you’re being led in the wrong direction and that almost every condition is treatable given the right advice and approach.  Here’s a fine example; nine out of ten a women in her early thirties experiencing menopause symptoms isn’t actually going through menopause – her hormones are just completely out of whack.  No amount of the pill will fix that.  And this is just one example of many – think infertility, acne, digestive issues, menstrual problems, anxiety, depression, mood swings, missing periods… To think that there is only one way to fix these conditions is madness.  Because we are all unique individuals.  We all need to remember that what works for one may not work for the next.

But who created this mess?

We did.  And it’s not our fault.  We are simply being fed incorrect information – EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.  We’re being led to anxiety because apparently there’s no time to spare, not a minute to wait which leaves no time to get healthy and actually find the solution.  It ALL starts with good health.  You’re never going to land yourself in trouble by going down that path.

You know, I realised something on holidays.  I realised how much I love women’s health.  I realised just how much I need to get this message out there, to help women question what doesn’t innately feel right, to get educated and make your own informed decisions because they feel right for YOU.  Nobody can make health decisions better than we can for ourselves – provided we can make a decision from an educated standpoint.

If you only hear one thing today – please hear this.  It’s important to take time to work out what is going to be your very own solution.  If it takes you a week or two, or several months, that’s ok – nothing bad going to happen if you wait a minute.  Sometimes stepping back, or better still, all together off the merry-go-round can provide the the solution you’ve been longing for.  Hurling yourself like two year old toddler tantrum into invasive, not to mention sometimes damaging treatments, can be disastrous.

Create some space and allow clarity to guide you.  I promise, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

But for me, it’s back to it.  I hope to take you on a journey in 2014 like no other.  To rev up the education factor be it through my live events, downloads, books and so much more.  I have to say from the bottom of my heart – I love that we’re in this together.  Bring it on!

Welcome back Nat! Can’t wait for everything you’ll be bringing to the table this year!

When I first came off the pill my GP strongly advised against it and wouldn’t give me any information on what my other options were, so I just went for it on my own and tried to find out as much as I could. Your knowledge has been invaluable 🙂 Thank you!
