healthalks – Organic or not?

Today on healthalks we’re sinking our teeth into the organic versus conventional food discussion. Our resident chef and nutritionist Sam gives us her take on what’s best and why. Jess also shares from her personal experience, her journey down the organic path in healing herself from cancer and how this was an integral part of her regime.

For me, the benefits of eating organic are massive – my families health is my number one priority and by integrating organic food into our lives we save thousands of dollars in healthcare. It really is the ants pants! Plus, on the fertility front – it makes the world of difference. But I’ll stop talking now and let you watch the segment.

Do you eat organic? Tell me more below. Help us share the healthtalks love and share this episode around!

I am a huge advocate for organic food and products.

After having fertility issues, I couldn’t understand completely why things weren’t going right when we were trying everything to conceive. Being a midwife, I thought I was getting it all right.

Then I thought “Why am I eating and consuming all these products laced with chemicals that are interfering with my natural body chemicals?”

So I started organic, as much as I could, as it isn’t always easy to get.

Within 2 months, I fell pregnant, maintained a healthier weight through and after my pregnancy, have clearer skin, am sick less often and recover quicker, and never felt better when I eat organic.

My baby girl only eats organic, and her development is astonishing. She is reaching milestones way ahead of time. Not sure if it’s because she has a smart mummy and daddy, but I think it’s also the fact that her brain development has been boosted with breast milk and organic food.

If you’re in Melbourne you can access affordable organic fruit & vege through Ceres Fair Food – http://www.ceresfairfood.org.au/ It’s not expensive as they only what’s in season and what can be sourced from local suppliers. And there’s a Veg-only box for those who don’t eat a lot of fruit because of the sugar. Health benefits aside – we now can’t do without it because it tastes SO much better! (And, um… can I add the other incentive is that you can order Loving Earth chocolate to be included in the box… )

I think we need to remember that we are so lucky to be in a country with such an abundance of fresh healthy food that if you can’t get organic, you are really lucky to be eating fresh fruit and veg.

    Hi,

I enjoyed your discussion on organics. We’ve been trying to increase how much organic food we are eating. It is so much more expensive though so it’s hard to do some weeks.

Could you post the link you talk about?

    Thanks
