Fix Your Hormones with Seed Cycling & Yo’Nuts

You’ve heard me go on a bit about seed cycling before.  In fact, nothing has changed since that original post back in 2013 besides the fact that (drumroll please)……… we now have our very own Seed Cycling product to make life easy for you!!  Hello Yo’Nuts Seed Cycling Mix!

Truth is, if you cycles are a bit iffy, if you feel ‘hormonal’ or feel your hormones are a little out of kilter, seed cycling is here to help.

Here’s how.  Using specific ‘seeds’ (like sesame and pumpkin seeds) at various times of your cycle, you can help naturally balance what your hormones should already be doing (but might be struggling due to lifestyle, diet, environment and the rest).  These amazing ingredients have their own superpowers to help take your hormones from struggle street to happy days!

Because so many of us ladies experience difficulties with our menstrual cycles, it is important to understand that we need to specifically look at the interaction between oestrogen and progesterone to balance our hormones.  During the follicular phase (from the period through to ovulation), oestrogen slowly builds and peaks at ovulation.  For ovulation to occur, progesterone must kick in and lay the foundation of the luteal phase (from ovulation to when the period arrives again).  You may begin to see, there is this intricate interaction each and every cycle between oestrogen and progesterone.  But if say oestrogen is too high, it can mean progesterone may be too low, which can cause issues with ovulation and healthy cycles.  This imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone throughout the cycle can contribute to a host of issues some of which include;

+ long/irregular menstrual cycles

+ missing periods

+ painful periods

+ ovulation pain

+ acne

+ anxiety (especially mid cycle and pre period)

+ pre menstrual syndrome (PMS)

+ fertility troubles

– the list goes on and on and on…. and this is an extremely common problem for many women.

Cue seed cycling!

Seed cycling uses specific nuts and seeds to help support either oestrogen or progesterone at the appropriate time of the month.  It works by supporting the health of the menstrual cycle in hormone production, binding and metabolism.  Various seeds possess different types and amounts of lignans and essential fatty acids (essential being they key word – but more so knowing that your body doesn’t make these, we need to eat them to have them).  Lignans assist our body’s ability to bind up excess hormones.  Hormone production is reliant on the availability of essential fatty acids.  These provide the secret to a healthy menstrual cycle – balancing the hormones the whole way through because;

+ Flax and sesame seeds are chock full of lignans – these will block excess oestrogen (music to SO many women’s ears.  Read more about oestrogen dominance here)

+ Selenium is a vitamin that is a key player in hormone health and very often totally robbed by the pill.

+ Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, supporting the release of progesterone.

    So interesting! I’m breastfeeding my 4 month old so my period hasn’t returned yet so would I just follow the lunar cycle? I would love to use this time to balance my hormones but would this make my period return?

    I have just bought your Yo Nuts Seed Cycling Day 1-14.. Unfortunately I have no idea of my cycle and I did not receive the moon chart you mentioned. Can you please point me in the direct to find it? I have searched your website with no success.
