Control your genes and bubble wrap yourself from cancer. My interview with THE Bruce Lipton.

I’m not really the nervous type – but this interview had me wake up at 3:30am in a sweaty mess thinking I’d missed my alarm!  No more than 1.5 hours later, I got up at 5am to connect with the world renowned Dr Bruce Lipton.  Totally worth it!!  Bruce is the godfather of epigenetics – he’s the man behind the proof that our thoughts can change our health and lead to wellness or illness.  He’s won the Goi Peace Award (the Japanese equivalent of the Noble Peace Prize) and he has a bio that is taller than me.  He is one inspiring man and I was so blessed to be able to chat with him.
On the back of the recent Angelina Jolie story, I set about finding experts who could validate the concepts I put forward.  Bruce is the final link in this puzzle – he is the one that holds the ultimate evidence.  You must listen to this podcast today – you’ll learn not only about cancer and fertility and access to success in all areas o wellness.

Here’s what you will learn today:

  • Bruces background – in 1967 he discovered that stem cells responded to different environments.
  • how Bruce’s theory was then validated – that our environment influences our genes and that genes control life.
  • how our mind influences our health and wellbeing and by the same token, how it can make us really sick.
  • why influences like stress or fear affect the body – it makes our cells shut down to protect the body
  • why long term shut down is disastrous and leads to illness and cancers.  Shutting down our growth and immune system opens us up to sickness and illness.
  • how this is relevant to ALL conditions including fertility
  • thinking logically about fertility; so much energy is required to make a baby, when we are in this state of stress, our bodies are in shut down mode and because our bodies are SMART, we simply can’t reproduce whilst in this state.
  • why we can’t simply bypass fertility and the key to reproductive success especially with IVF
  • how our conscious mind (being present)  and subconscious minds (our habits) are the key to wellness – the conscious mind programmes the subconscious mind although we can’t necessarily control our subconscious even though it is a million times more powerful
  • how we run self sabotaging programs in our minds without realising it and how your subconscious mind could be leading you in the wrong direction (or the right direction) because 95% of the day we are operating with our subconscious
  • that if we are only using our conscious mind 5% of the time, and the programming isn’t good, we are running self sabotaging habits.
  • this leads to cancer because cancer is a chronic inflammation process – when the system isn’t running to its healthy status.  Genes might give you propensity toward the breakdown but they have to be selected, activated and controlled for cancer to develop.  If we are programming to believe we are sickly, unlovable etc, that behaviour will control our genetics.  ie if we have anger and we can’t express it.  That chemistry in the brain controls all the cells of the body.
  • it’s not the genes causing the problem – it’s lifestyle!
  • having the gene doesn’t mean you have the cancer
  • how it’s all about the placebo affect
  • how the ‘no-cebo affect’ is affecting us.  It has the same power as a positive thought but works in the opposite direction
  • why cutting out the tissue won’t save you from cancer
  • so for Angelina Jolie (or anybody in her situation) if she maintains her belief that her genes control her life and continues to live the same lifestyle, then by definition she must have the surgery because she is predicting the cancer before it has even happened.  And her brain will release chemicals to match this which will influence such tissues to develop.
  • you are more powerful that you may believe

Find out more about Bruce and all the books he has written on his site.

And that book that he mentions – here are the details.  Dying to be me, by Anita Maugani (Bruce talks about this book in the interview) experienced a turn around from cancer in 4 days simply by changing her belief.  4 DAYS!

Tell me what you think?  If thoughts are just thoughts – how are yours influencing your life?

So why do children get cancer? Does it not count in the case of kids or animals? It’s been said before by others but its incredibly insulting to insinuate that Angelina or others in her situation are actively growing cancer because they are being cautious. Me thinks its time to unsubscribe….between your Angelina haranguing and Jess Ainscough’s public shaming of non-profit restaurants, the Australian natural health and wellness blogosphere is getting to be a downer for this girl.

Heather – I’m so glad you asked because my husband asked the same thing the other day.

Bruce indicates that just 10% of cancer is heredity – obviously genetic, passed on from the parents who possible were exposed to chemicals or other lifestyle factors that weren’t ideal. As far as animals are concerned, this too would be part of lifestyle and environmental causes.

I’m sad to think that you would wish to unsubscribe – however if these ideas are challenging you, it’s a great time for you to look further into what is being put forward.

I’m not sure I’ve suggested that Angelina is actively growing cancer by being cautions – seems my point has totally been missed if that is what is being taken away from the information I share. I hope that the challenging words I’m sharing can help all people think a little deeper about the reality of how our emotions and thoughts shape our health.

Please try and see all the wonderful and positive posts we share that are the sweeteners amongst some that are challenging. Much love to you. x

“If these ideas are challenging to you..”- my god what a snide and condescending thing to say. Instead of considering your position or taking on board what the person has said you assume that the fault lies with this posters ability to accept the information you are putting forward. It’s like the old “closed minded” ad homonym attack.

You seem to have almost zero understanding of how science works, one scientists opinion is not science. Peer review and double blind trials are what give us worthwhile information everything else is theoretical until it has passed though these doors. your blog and Jessica’s blog do give a good sample of the current trends in health quackery though.

She said ‘are challenging you’, not: ‘challenging to you’. Forgive me if I’m wrong but to me what she has said reads as though she is referring to the challenging of one’s beliefs, rather than a reference to Heather’s mental capacity. But I can see how misreading the sentence as you did could have it appear that way. As for your statement regarding health quackery and the like, I don’t really think there’s any need for such a comment, I think we should applaud those who are open minded enough to explore beyond the conventional; always remember: “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

            I stand by my comment.

“I think we should applaud those who are open minded enough to explore beyond the conventional”

Why? When the “conventional” approach is based in evidence is there a need to. I think your attraction to holistic health is more of a motivation against the notion of convention and conservatism. Calling medicine conventional is inaccurate too, medicine is based on the scientific method which is always subject to change based on new evidence. It is the most open minded way of looking at things, calling it conventional marks it as being stuck which makes it something for people to react against. Alternative medicine is actually more conventional as it resists new information, doesn’t change and often prides itself on remaining static. Science based medicine and healthcare meanwhile embraces change as new evidence based ( peer review not one persons opionion ) information comes to hand.

As for your quote about all truth passing through three stages, that kind of implies an endless circular logic where all things could be considered and never criticised. I heard it put well recently – they may have laughed at galileo but remember they also laughed at bobo the clown.

    Hi Nat,

I havent listened to the interview yet so at this stage Im just responding to your comments above. If you only set out to find people who support your views are you not presenting a biased view? I am interested in your perspective but when you only repect the evidence that supports your point of view you are not able to be objective about anything. I am a big believer that we are huge influencers in our own lives but we have to be careful not to get too caught up in magical thinking. I have done more exploration in this area recently, as it applies directly to cancer. The research indicates that the people who have the greatest fear of cancer are actually the people who have survived it. There are also other people who have irrational fears and phobias (and other mental heath conditions) which never suffer the things they fear most because their thoughts dont 100% determine their reality. And thank God for that!! The truth is that it is well known that thoughts can influence our experience, our feelings and our behaviour but thoughts on their own, without any other action are just thoughts. There is a lot of supporting evidence for this view from mindfulness theory taken directly from the ancient and spiritual buddhist traditions. There is also a lot of current scientific research in the area which finds it can be very helpful for mental health and well being not to place too much emphasis on the idea of thoughts solely creating reality. I don’t think anyone has all the answers to any of these questions regardless of the persons profession. We are all growing, learning and evolving and we have to be really careful not to rule out other perspectives just because they are different than our own. Isnt that why you are here to get people questioning? If that is truly your intent then it would be great to interview people who see things from a range of different perspectives not just those that fit with your existing beliefs. In my view that is what really challenges people to think for themselves.

Thanks for keeping this topic alive and the debate flowing. I agree with your view that it is defintely a debate worth having.

      Hi Emily,

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I feel there is just so much information on the other side of the fence, I have an obligation as an alternative health practitioner to deliver this different point of view. To be honest, I’m constantly exposed to the failure of medicine – that’s not to say it doesn’t have a place, but if fails when we don’t support the body as a whole. I do understand what you are saying – I also think it really is up to the individual person to gather as much information as possible to make informed choices.
I absolutely appreciate your opinion. I’m delighted you take the time to read and share.

“I set about finding experts who could validate the concepts I put forward”

This is called confirmation bias – you also said that you were exposed to the failures of medicine. This is also confirmation bias. Science is not about one persons theory no matter how credentialed they may be it’s about peer review and repeatable results through objective testing. I think you are closed minded to any points of view beyond your ideology.
