6 sweet things to make your house more hormone friendly

Always dedicated to helping women means I’m often awake to the wee hours, thinking about what you might like to know.  Much of what I teach is second nature to me – but the more I’m out there sharing, the more I know it’s not common knowledge.  I was privileged enough to be part of a webinar a few weeks back with Lisa Cordorff where I said something to the effect of “it’s common knowledge that the pill severely disrupts gut function.”  She asked me to stop and back up the buggy – because not everybody knows this, in fact those that do are in the minority it seems.  So with this in mind, I’m sharing my top household tips to pave the way for happier hormones.  Reality is, if your hormones are all over the shop, it’s not because you are from Mars, but more than likely because there is something driving them wild.

Here are my top household tips that won’t have your hormones climbing the walls!

Wrap in paper towel

This tip is a winner if you’re one to wrap your food or leftovers in plastic wrap.  I actually got this tip from my late beautiful friend, Jess Ainscough.  I wrap food first in paper towel before wrapping with cling wrap.  It prevents the plastic from actually making contact with your food, meaning the chemicals in the plastic that absolutely drive your oestrogen sky high aren’t able to penetrate your food.

No smell loo paper

Detergents, perfumes and cleaning products all contain chemicals that affect your hormones (just like the plastic wrap).  One of my absolute pet hates is perfumed toilet paper – especially for young women.  It’s in contact with an intimate part of our body which only deepens my worry of long term use.  Avoid deodorised products near your lady parts at all cost for these reasons.

Invite in house plants

Every second week, I’m mad for adding to our household plant family.  Whilst I absolutely adore growing them outside, my indoor plants bring me equally as much joy.  They help to keep the air clean inside and purify the air. Not only do they look cute, but they keep my hormones healthy too!

Buy loose veg

I’m astounded each time that I go to a large supermarket, all the organic produce is wrapped up and presented on a polystyrene tray.  WHY!?  The tray and the plastic, for the same reasons mentioned before, can be a disaster for your hormones.  Of course, we can only ever do our best and if you do happen to purchase produce this way, make sure you take it out once you get home and soak a sink full of water with a cap of apple cider vinegar to help clean the veggies.

Keep your window open

Fresh air in the house is an absolute must and keeping it circulating is key.  Ceiling fans are even more of a winner as they help attract dust and particles to the blades.  Using your fans will therefore also help to keep your air clean!  Be sure to clean the blades every 4 – 6 weeks to ensure that the particles don’t get recirculated.

Leave your shoes at the door

Sadly, the bottoms of our shoes are some of the dirtiest surfaces known to man – they contain large amounts of bacteria (not always a bad thing…) and more to the point toxins that can sway your hormones far left.  Walking these critters inside the home can be extremely unsettling for your health so consider leaving your shoes at the door.  Not only will it keep the air clean and your hormones happy but save you a little in elbow grease too!

These are just a few ideas that can help keep your home and your hormones happy.  I’m keen to hear of others tips and tricks when it comes to household hacks that keep your life simple but make sure your body is well cared for.  Let’s get some chatter happening in the comments section below; chances are, you’ll help somebody out to better their health in the process.

I love this Nat. It’s a peeve of mine that the veggies are wrapped in plastic too, for the same reason. I try to buy organic as much as possible but it’s always the organic veg that are wrapped up! I like your idea of the paper towel under the plastic, I’d never thought of that. I use glass containers as much as possible and have started using honeybee wraps instead of plastic wrap to save on waste and avoid plastic =)

It’s tricky because many of the supermarket ones are wrapped!
